Road Trip Effect Pro from Sol Robots is one of those interesting applications
that addresses a need you may not even realize you have. Once I started
experimenting with its map animation tools, however, I realized that there are
all kinds of uses for an app like this.
Road Trip Effect Pro has one primary purpose in life: To let you create and
animate travel routes on maps. Odds are youβve seen the animations Iβm talking about.
If you have ever watched an Indiana Jones movie, itβs the effect where the red line
moves across a map to show where Indy is traveling to
The application ships with a set of maps showing various parts of the world, but if
you need a different map, Road Trip Effect Pro recognizes JPEG, BMP, PNG, PICT, and
TIFF formats. That comes in handy if you need to use a city map image, or maybe show
the route you followed on your quest through Middle Earth.
You can use an icon to show the lead end of your route, and several basic icons are included.
Like maps, if you need a customized icon, you can use your own graphic instead. JPEG, BMP,
PICT, and TIFF images are acceptable, and you can also apply a mask to areas that should be transparent.
Showing multiple trails, or routes, on your maps is no big deal since Road Trip Effect Pro
supports multiple layers. Each route can be built on a unique layer, and the animations can
start and stop at different points in the timeline. I was able to use layers to build a fairly
complex animation that started with a single trail, then branched out into three trails, and then
branched again off of one of the new trails.
Each point on your route can be labeled, too. Thatβs a nice feature if your intended audience
needs help identifying individual point locations.
Road Trip Effect Pro uses its own file format, but it does build QuickTime movies that you can
use in other applications or as stand-alone movie files. Movies can be saved in NTSC, Pal, HD,
and custom formats. After a movie is saved, you can place it in iMovie, Final Cut, Keynote, or
any other application that recognizes QuickTime movies.
Saved animations are QuickTime compatible.
Aside from the obvious "This is the route we took on our summer vacation" use, Road Trip Effect
Pro is also a great tool for creating animated maps showing wildlife migration routes,
historical travels, demonstrating military maneuvers, and more. If you use an image of a timeline,
you can even use the trail animations to show the progression of time and highlight key events.

File Juicer is a drag & drop can opener and data archaeologist. Its specialty is to find and extract images, video, audio or text from files which are hard to open in other ways.
It finds and extracts: JPEG, JP2, PNG, GIF, PDF, BMP, WMF, EMF, PICT, TIFF, Flash, Zip, HTML, WAV, AVI, MOV, MP4, MPG, MP3, AIFF, AU, WMV or text from files which contain data in those formats.
Lossless extraction... File Juicer doesn't convert the images/sounds/videos it finds, but saves them unchanged in their original format if possible. See the manual for details.
This is useful:
if you want to extract the images/sounds/videos from a PDF or Word document
if you have old files you can no longer open with current applications,
if you receive emails with attachments you can not open,
if you have corrupt files or databases,
if you have damaged or acidentally erased flash cards for your digital camera,
if you receive "self extracting" EXE files designed for Windows,
or if this is just faster than copying and pasting from the file.
When you have extracted some files - for instance from an accidentally erased flash card, you can then check that they are intact with QuickTime Player or convert them with other applications. For images, checking validity is done by letting File Juicer generate icons for the files. Then the files with icons are the ones which are intact.
File Juicer has Automator support so you can save just the settings you need and use them directly from Finder.

i've resently come across a few links that ended with the extention html......i downloaded them with flash get and thedo not appear as rar/zip files but as FIREFOX DOCUMENTS.......they are around the size you would expect from a downloaded link but they wont allow me to extract them, the only thing i can do is open the file........this results in my desktop freezing and the screen filling withe endless lines of meaningless letters, symblos and numbers......i researched the problem on the net and found several forums that claimed that the double extention normally means that the programe is a trojan/virus........i've been told very firmly that this is not the case by others on the forum......however they did not offer any other explanation......WTF do i do with these firefox documents? is there some type of program i need to convert them or what?
