DirectX 10 is the latest version of the DirectX suite of multimedia application programming interfaces that Microsoft has built exclusively into its latest operating system,

Inside this zip is a how to install.txt file with complete instructions on where to install the files (don't worry, we'll have an installer in the near future) and how to get and run the examples from the SDK.

1.DirectX 10.1 is a series of extensions to DirectX 10
2.It's supported by upcoming graphics hardware, but not current DX10 hardware
3.It requires (and will be part of) Vista Service Pack 1
This is business as usual, as far as DirectX is concerned. DX 10.1 hardware will be backwards compatible with DirectX 10, but current DX10 hardware won't be forward compatible. So games looking to support DX 10.1 still need a DX 10 rendering path to support today's DX10 cards. Think of it like when Microsoft released DirectX 9.0c with added Shader Model 3.0 support. Also, don't worry too much about it requiring SP1 (which isn't out yet). The DX 10.1 SDK only recently was made available, and by the time supporting hardware and DX10.1 are released to end users somewhere in the first half of 2008, SP1 should be readily available.
What are the changes? DX 10.1's goals are to offer the "complete" DX 10, giving developers better control over image quality and making mandatory some of the things that are optional in DX 10. For example, 32-bit floating point filtering is optional in DX10 (16-bit FP filtering is mandatory), but will be mandatory in DX 10.1. Also, in DX 10, the number of multisample anti-aliasing samples is optional—DX 10.1 will make 4x AA mandatory, and require two specific sample patterns. Graphics cards can offer more sample patterns, and developers can query them in their shaders. Graphics cards that are DX 10.1 compliant will have to offer programmable shader output sample masks and multisample AA depth readback. Game developers will be able to index into cube maps and perform bitwise copies from uncompressed textures to block-compressed texture formats.
If that's a bunch of gobbledygook to you, don't sweat it. The main takeaway is this: DirectX 10.1 is a straightforward incremental update to DX 10 that forces graphics vendors to adhere to a few more set standards with regards to image quality and a couple other under-the-hood graphics features, mainly to give games more control over image quality.

Directx.com was originally registered to us back in the mid 90's. At that time DirectX was a new multimedia technology that Microsoft was introducing. We were working in DirectX and related technology and thought that it'd be a good location on the Internet. We never thought that Microsoft would later turn it into a brand name.
Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms. Originally, the names of these APIs all began with Direct, such as Direct3D, DirectDraw, DirectMusic, DirectPlay, DirectSound, and so forth. DirectX, then, was the generic term for all of these Direct-something APIs, and that term became the name of the collection. Over the intervening years, some of these APIs have been deprecated and replaced, so that this naming convention is no longer absolute. In fact, the X has caught on to the point that it has replaced Direct as the common part in the names of new DirectX technologies, including XAct, XInput, and so forth. Additionally, when Microsoft decided to develop game consoles based on DirectX, the X stuck, leading to the name Xbox (and later Xbox 360).
Direct3D (the 3D graphics API within DirectX) is widely used in the development of computer games for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Xbox, and Microsoft Xbox 360. Direct3D is also used by other software applications for visualization and graphics tasks, most notably among the engineering sector for CAD/CAM, because of its ability to quickly render high-quality 3D graphics using DirectX-compatible graphics hardware. As Direct3D is the most widely recognized API in DirectX, it is common to see the name DirectX used in place of Direct3D.
The interfaces that comprise DirectX include components for use by a running application (runtime components) as well as components for use by software developers at design time (the software development kit). The runtimes were originally redistributed by computer game developers along with their games, but are now included as built-in parts of Microsoft Windows. The SDK is available as a free download. While the runtimes are proprietary, closed-source software, source code is provided for most of the SDK samples.

Synopsis: Best known for his horror classics RE-ANIMATOR (1985), FROM BEYOND (1986), and DOLLS (1987), director Stuart Gordon turned to

humankind’s potential for cruelty toward one another. Inspired by real events, this is a bloody and disturbing revenge film with a
pitch-black sense of humor and a handful of fine performances. Tom Bardo (Stephen Rea) is having a bad Friday. He’s out of work and
preparing for an interview at the employment agency when he is suddenly evicted from apartment. A computer glitch then causes him to
spend the entire day waiting for his interview, then is turned away. With nowhere left to go, he finds himself sleeping on a park
bench, only to be rousted by a cop. Enter Brandi (Mena Suvari), a corn-rowed nursing assistant heading home after a night of partying.
Talking on the phone and driving under the influence, Brandi hits Tom, sending him crashing halfway through her windshield. Afraid of
the consequences, she chooses to drive home, park the car in her garage, and not tell anyone. But Tom, despite this indignant end to a
terrible day, still has some fight left in him. Based on true events that occurred in 2002 in Fort Worth, Texas, STUCK boldly plays on
the grim absurdity of the situation. John Strysik’s smart script pokes fun at the macho posturing of thug culture and the sad
implications of a society where there are no exceptions to the “no snitching” policy. Suvari gives a wild, fun performance, and Rea’s
likable Tom is a prototypical underdog. Funny, painful, and crowd-pleasing, this is truly and proudly a B-movie, and a worthy addition
to Gordon’s impressive body of work.
